Our Beginning in Michigan Soil
Founded in 2019 by Ross Devereaux and Dave Jones, Arbor Spring Farms began with a vision to bring premium, locally grown functional mushrooms to life—right in the heart of Michigan. What started as a passion project in a repurposed office building quickly grew into a mission-driven farm and production company that values traceability, freshness, and purity above all. But in 2024 we were blessed when Terence Barnes joined the team bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge as a long time grower of mushrooms.
From day one the team set out to know exactly where every element of the process came from. It all starts with our substrate—the nutrient-rich growing medium, typically a blend of hardwood sawdust and organic materials, that serves as the foundation for mushroom cultivation. This is where the mycelium, the root-like network of the mushroom, first takes hold and grows strong. Once inoculated, this substrate becomes what’s called spawn, the living, thriving system that ultimately produces the beautiful fruiting bodies you see on our farm.

To protect quality at every level, we source our substrate exclusively from two trusted suppliers. From there, we maintain full control over each step of the journey—from cultivation to extraction—just miles from where our mushrooms are grown.
At Arbor Spring Farms, we’ve never used—and will never use—any chemicals or fertilizers during our growing process. Instead, we rely on carefully controlled environments and rigorous operating procedures to keep our mushrooms clean, potent, and naturally delicious.
